Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) is an energy recovery process that involves exchanging the energy contained in the air typically expelled from buildings or spaces, and using it to treat (pre-treat) the outdoor ventilation air entering residential and commercial HVAC systems. In warmer seasons, the system pre-cools and dehumidifies; in cooler seasons, it humidifies and preheats. The advantage of using energy recovery lies in its ability to meet ASHRAE's ventilation and energy standards, while improving indoor air quality and reducing the total capacity of HVAC equipment.
