Latest company case about Beijing Forestry University Xiong'an Campus: Holtop DX AHU and Heat Recovery Ventilation for a Green Campus

Project Background

Beijing Forestry University has built a new campus in Xiong'an New Area, Hebei Province. The campus brings together teaching buildings, student dormitories and research facilities, and its design brief asks for more than ordinary air conditioning: precise indoor temperature and humidity control, a continuous supply of clean fresh air, quiet study and living spaces, and a building services strategy that keeps energy demand low.

Holtop, one of China's established air handling units manufacturers, signed the equipment supply contract for the project, covering direct-expansion air handling units, rotary heat recovery air handling units and heat recovery fresh air ventilators across classrooms, dormitories, teaching and research buildings.

Challenges on Site

  • Mixed building types. Classrooms, dormitories and research rooms have very different occupancy patterns, ventilation rates and operating hours, so a single standard unit type could not serve the whole campus.
  • North China climate. Winters are cold and dry while summers are hot and humid, so fresh air has to be pre-conditioned in both seasons without inflating the energy bill.
  • Indoor air quality for students. Densely occupied classrooms and dormitories need constant fresh-air replacement and effective filtration, especially when outdoor air quality is poor.
  • Green and low-carbon targets. Xiong'an New Area applies strict building energy and carbon requirements, so heat recovery and efficient fan technology were not optional extras.
  • Centralised operation. The campus facilities team required one control platform to monitor and adjust equipment across multiple buildings instead of scattered local switches.

Holtop Solution

Holtop configured a three-level equipment package matched to the way each building is actually used.

  • Direct-expansion units. For teaching and research spaces Holtop supplied a dx air handling unit configuration that combines precise temperature and humidity control with filtered fresh air in one packaged unit.
  • Rotary heat recovery units. For areas with high ventilation demand, the rotary wheel recovers both heat and moisture from the exhaust air and keeps the supply air close to room conditions.
  • Heat recovery fresh air ventilators. For classrooms and dormitories, these units provide continuous filtered fresh air at low noise levels suitable for study and sleep.
  • Intelligent centralised control. Linking the different product families so that the facilities team can monitor operation, adjust schedules and detect faults from one platform.

Because ceiling voids, duct routes and room layouts differ from one building to another, the equipment was selected and configured building by building rather than pulled from a catalogue. For the campus areas where a chilled-water plant formed part of the design, Holtop also coordinated the air-side scope with qualified air cooled chiller manufacturers, so that supply, exhaust and cooling could be designed as one system.

Project Value

Value Dimension What the Campus Gains
Comfort Stable temperature and humidity, and quiet operation in classrooms and dormitories
Air quality Continuous filtered fresh air replacing stale air in densely occupied rooms
Energy efficiency Heat recovery reduces the energy needed to condition incoming fresh air
Operation Intelligent centralised control simplifies monitoring and maintenance across buildings
Sustainability Supports the green, low-carbon building standard set for the new district

Why Holtop

  • More than two decades of air handling and heat recovery manufacturing experience, with in-house testing before shipment.
  • As experienced energy recovery ventilator manufacturers, Holtop guarantees heat exchange core and rotary wheel quality instead of reselling imported parts.
  • As custom air handling unit manufacturers, Holtop adapts airflow, coil, filtration and control configurations to each building type rather than forcing a catalogue unit into an awkward ceiling void.
  • Proven references in education, healthcare and public building projects across China and in export markets, with support from equipment selection to commissioning.

Conclusion

The Beijing Forestry University Xiong'an Campus project shows how a carefully matched mix of air handling units, rotary heat recovery units and fresh air ventilators can deliver comfortable, healthy and low-energy indoor environments across very different building types.

If you are planning a campus, school or public building project, contact Holtop for a tailored air handling and heat recovery selection.
