Energy recovery ventilation is the process of exchanging the energy contained in normally exhausted building air and using it to precondition the incoming outdoor ventilation air in residential and commercial HVAC systems. During warmer seasons, the system pre-cools and dehumidifies, while in cooler seasons it humidifies and pre-heats. The benefit of energy recovery is the ability to meet ASHRAE ventilation and energy standards while improving indoor air quality and reducing total HVAC equipment capacity.
