Holtop Completes HVAC Deployment for Nakhodka Methanol Plant, Addressing Extreme Climate and Hazardous Conditions in Russia’s Far East

BEIJING, September 3, 2026 – Holtop, a specialist in industrial air handling solutions, has announced the successful commissioning of its constant‑temperature‑and‑humidity air conditioning systems for the 5,400‑tonne‑per‑day methanol facility in Nakhodka, Russia. The project, executed under the general contract of Chengda Engineering Corporation and operated by Nakhodka Mineral Fertilizer Plant, represents a significant reference for Chinese HVAC suppliers in large‑scale overseas energy‑chemical ventures.

The plant encompasses a wide array of functional areas – including processing units, laboratories, warehousing, GIS substations, and security posts – each imposing distinct thermal and humidity control demands. Compounding the complexity are the region’s severe winter climate, the presence of corrosive gases, and explosion‑hazard classifications across methanol handling zones. Moreover, the local Russian regulatory framework and the use of 95/70°C high‑temperature hot water as the primary heat source required engineering adaptations beyond domestic Chinese practice.

Holtop supplied more than 600 air handling units, encompassing constant‑temperature‑and‑humidity models, modular air handlers, direct‑expansion units, and an integrated control architecture. Key technical responses included:

• Distributed zoning control, enabling a single unit to regulate multiple independent spaces via terminal reheating and humidification stages, thereby eliminating the inaccuracies associated with uniform air delivery.

• Hot‑water mixing regulation, which reduces the incoming water temperature to a stable 80/70°C at the coil inlet, preserving heat exchange efficiency and safeguarding equipment from thermal stress.

• Full explosion‑proof construction for all electrical components, combined with corrosion‑resistant casings meeting European standards, ensuring safe operation in both hazardous and chemically aggressive environments.

• Centralised smart management built on a PLC‑based DCS architecture, with over 500 I/O points and a trilingual human‑machine interface (Chinese, English, Russian) to facilitate on‑site monitoring by multinational crews.

The entire system passed joint acceptance by the contractor and owner on the first attempt, following on‑site commissioning by Holtop’s dedicated team. Complete technical documentation was delivered in three languages to align with Russian statutory requirements.
