Custom air handling solution overcomes tropical climate and space constraints to ensure stable production of high-end direct-drive motors
SINGAPORE – June 22, 2026 – Holtop, a leading Chinese manufacturer of air handling and cleanroom solutions, has successfully commissioned a customized direct-expansion (DX) air conditioning system for Akribis Systems' precision manufacturing facility in Singapore.
The project ensures stable temperature, humidity, and air cleanliness within Akribis' cleanroom — conditions critical for producing high-precision direct-drive motors used in semiconductor, electronics, and automation industries. The installation also addressed two specific challenges: Singapore's year-round tropical climate and the facility's limited mechanical room space.
The Challenge
Akribis Systems, founded in Singapore in 2004, is a global leader in direct-drive motor and motion platform technology. Its cleanroom must maintain tight environmental tolerances — typically within ±0.5°C and ±5% relative humidity — to guarantee product quality and yield.
However, the retrofit project posed significant obstacles:
External climate: Persistent high temperatures and heavy rainfall place continuous loads on cooling and dehumidification systems.
Installation space: The existing machine room offered less than two meters of clearance, requiring compact equipment without performance compromise.
The Solution
Holtop deployed a complete system comprising six purification-grade air handling units (AHUs) and 12 DX outdoor condensing units, engineered specifically for Akribis' production requirements.
Key technical features include:
Staged heat exchange technology that maintains stable outlet conditions even under peak outdoor loads.
High-efficiency filtration to meet ISO-class cleanliness standards for electronic manufacturing.
Intelligent adaptive control using high-accuracy sensors placed throughout the facility, enabling real-time adjustments to temperature, humidity, and positive pressure differentials.
The AHUs are from Holtop's 50W series, which complies with European Standard EN1886 (mechanical and thermal performance) and German VDI 6022-1 (hygiene requirements for ventilation systems). Their frameless concealed reinforcement design ensures smooth internal surfaces that resist dust accumulation, while achieving low air leakage and excellent thermal insulation.
To overcome space limitations, Holtop adopted a modular, compact layout that optimizes the arrangement of functional sections. The resulting footprint was significantly reduced without sacrificing cooling capacity, airflow, or filtration efficiency — fitting perfectly into the existing room.
Since commissioning, the system has maintained temperature within ±0.3°C and humidity within ±3% RH under continuous 24/7 operation — exceeding the original specifications.
The modular design also contributes to long-term reliability. All key components are factory-tested to minimize failure rates, and the layout simplifies routine maintenance, reducing both unplanned downtime and total cost of ownership.
